More in-depth information about our Discussion List:Thank you for your interest in the DSA Discussion list! Please read through this page to find out how to join, to see what types of emails are allowed when you post messages and how to change your mail options. It is a public list, so anyone (even non-list members) can see what you email to the list.
List Focus
This group is for the purpose of communication between people who are interested in DSA and positive training. It is a place where these people can ask question of one another and/or offer their support. It is intended to be an on-line family (think ideal family, not a “married with children” family?)
Welcome! Please play nice.
List Members and Hosts
The list is currently operated and maintained by Chris Puls (
DogScouts@hotmail.com). Diana (Yahoo ID: Diana49441) is a list moderator as well. If Chris is not available, feel free to contact Diana if you have a problem with the operation of the list or with another list member. The list has experienced trainers, Troop leaders, Scoutmasters, Evaluators and dog parents to help people that are new to DSA and positive training understand how it works and answer any questions that arise.
List Rules
List rules are intended to keep the list harmonious with its purpose.
1. Responses to training and management questions should be restricted to positive methods. Recommendations of physical or mental aversives which cause pain or fear are not permitted.
2. Personal attacks, flaming, uncivil rhetoric, and malicious sarcasm are not permitted. If you disagree with a post, specify your disagreement by describing what you think might work instead or better.
3. DSA list traffic can be high at times, so adhering to the following guidelines will help keep the topics appropriate.
APPROPRIATE:
Training
Dog behavior
Success stories
Questions
Attaboys/congratulations/etc.
Seminar announcements
"Any Scoutmasters/evaluators/troops in ___?"
DSA related
INAPPROPRIATE:
SPAM/ Advertisements
Virus warnings
Scam warnings/hoaxes
Missing dog e-mails (list members are from all over the world)
Puppies for sale or adoption
Jokes
Chain letters, even funny or thoughtful ones
Poems and cute Internet stories
Debates about the effectiveness of, necessity of, or severeness of aversives, general or specific
judgmental sniping or other "collar popping" of list members
4. If you reply to a post, trim the original text to leave only what is most relevant about that message. At the minimum, remove headers and footers. Please don’t reply without trimming. This means delete any part of the original post that does not directly pertain to your reply. This makes your reply easier to read, especially for those on digest, and makes messages easier to follow in the archives.
5. If the subject of the reply you send has changed from the original subject, please change the subject line of the email. Example: Someone posted asking if there were any leaders in TX and their email was titled "Leaders in TX." In your reply, you say that you don't know, but then start a discussion about the leadership program, please change the title of your email to "Leadership Program." This really helps those people who only have time to skim the email titles to see if something is relevant to them and makes searches of the archives easier.
Moderators Job
Moderators will endeavor to be as tactful as possible and may call a temporary halt to topics that raise dissent so badly that list member feelings begin to disrupt list harmony. If your topic is ruled temporarily out of order, please respect the ruling. The list owner reserves the right to remove any person or their posts from the list.
Subscribing
If you get this email, you have already subscribed, but this information is in case you need to add another email address or need to sign-up again for some reason.
The DSA list is a YahooGroups list. Remember the Yahoo ID and password you choose so you can access the list website to use some of the list features (like file access, photo access, etc.)
To re-subscribe (if needed) visit the DSA list page at YahooGroups:

Mail options
The DSA list is available in several formats.
-- Individual e-mail -- Receive each post individually as it is posted. This is the most immediate option but may send several emails to your in-bin per day if list traffic gets high. This option will allow you to see attachments and photos sent to the list and makes using the “reply” function easy.
-- Digest -- The digest option groups posts together in batches of 25 or less and sends them in one e-mail. This option is good if you want less mailbox traffic but still want to keep up with the list on a daily basis. People on Digest cannot see attachments and photos posted within emails sent to the list. To be able to use the “reply” function, selecting “fully featured” is recommended. With this option, each message in the digest will give you the option to click one spot and either send to the person who posted the message, send to the whole list or to reply through the list’s website.
-- No-mail/Web only -- This option sends no e-mail. Instead you can read posts at your leisure by logging on at the YahooGroups site (
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/DSA_TalkList/). This option is perfect for people...
who don't want to receive posts in their mailbox,
who want to read online,
who want the freedom to check in only occasionally,
who want to belong in order to access the archives but not to read current discussions,
who are going on vacation
If you choose this option, please don't forget to check the website frequently for updates and messages.
-- Special Notices only- If this option is selected, you will only be notified when the list owner sends out something as a “Special Notice.” This doesn’t happen often.

Type in the subject and it will return with the emails that contain that word or words. When you use the “next” button, the program will search blocks of older messages each time you use the next button.
